How do I read and send AOL e-mail using Microsoft Entourage?

AOL's e-mail servers allow you to send and receive e-mail using most common e-mail applications. Setting up Microsoft® Entourage to read and send AOL e-mail is a two-step process. First, you need to create a new e-mail account in Entourage. Once the e-mail account is created, you need to configure your Entourage e-mail account so you can send and receive your AOL e-mail.

To set up an e-mail account

1. Sign on to AOL.
2. Open Microsoft Entourage.
3. On the Welcome screen, enter your First name and Last name.
4. Click the right arrow to continue.
5. On the Home Information screen, enter information about where you live.
6. Click the right arrow to continue.
7. On the Work Information screen, enter information about where you work.
8. Click the right arrow to continue.
9. On the Welcome screen, click I want to start using Entourage without importing anything.
10. Click the right arrow to continue.
11. On the Your Name screen, enter your name as you would like it to appear on your outgoing e-mail (e.g., Gabby Grace).
12. Click the right arrow to continue.
13. On the Internet E-mail Address screen, enter your AOL e-mail address (e.g., GabbyGrace@aol.com).
14. Click the right arrow to continue.
15. On the E-mail Server Names screen, change the incoming mail server to IMAP.
16. In the Incoming mail server field, enter: imap.aol.com.
17. In the Outgoing mail server field, enter: smtp.aol.com.
18. Click the right arrow to continue.
19. On Internet Mail Logon screen, enter your AOL screen name (e.g., GabbyGrace) in the Account ID field.
20. In the Password field, enter the password for your AOL account.
21. Click the right arrow to continue.
22. On the Congratulations screen, enter a name for your account (e.g., AOL E-mail) in the Account name field.
23. Click Finish.
24. When you are prompted for your password, enter the password for your AOL account.
25. Click OK.

To configure your e-mail account

1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
2. Select your AOL IMAP account.
3. Click Edit.
4. On the Account Settings tab, in the Sending Mail section, click Click here for advanced sending options.
5. Select the Override default SMTP port check box.
6. Change the number in the SMTP port field to 587.
7. Click the SMTP server requires authentication check box.
8. Close the Settings dialog box.
9. Click OK.
10. Close the Accounts dialog box.

Notes

• If Entourage is not your default e-mail program, you may be prompted to specify whether you want to use it as the default by clicking Yes or No.
• If the Setup assistant does not appear, on the Tools menu, click Accounts, and then click New. Then, skip to Step 10.
